At Wednesday’s show, Letterman joined Chappelle on stage for approximately half an hour, talking and joking together. Reports from attendees said it was a “phenomenal show.”
Major stars from both the comedy and music worlds have made appearances at Chappelle’s events. The series, which has been referred to as “An Intimate Socially Distanced Affair,” has featured Jon Stewart, Chris Rock, Tiffany Haddish, Jon Hamm, Michael Che, Erykah Badu, Michelle Wolf, Common, Donnell Rawlings, Talib Kweli, Cipha Sounds and Mo Amer, among others
Letterman, who retired from his long-running show “Late Night with David Letterman” in 2015, has been hosting a new series on Netflix called “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman.”
Chappelle also has a contract with Netflix, releasing several popular comedy specials on the streaming platform over the last few years. Most recently he released a short special titled “8:46,″ which was recorded in Yellow Springs this summer. This week, he was honored with Emmy nominations for his “Sticks and Stones” Netflix special.
Since they both have contracts with Netflix, it’s not entirely surprising to see Letterman join Chappelle here. The pair were also scheduled to appear at the Netflix Is A Joke Fest, which was postponed indefinitely due to concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.
The comedy festival was scheduled to run April 27 to May 3 of this year at more than 20 Los Angeles venues. Amy Schumer, Ali Wong, and other comedy stars were also scheduled to take part in the festivities.
Film crews have been spotted filming Chappelle and Letterman this week, so perhaps we’ll see a future special with these two comedy legends.
Tickets to this week’s shows were available on Ticketmaster, but are sold out. We’ll keep you posted as soon as we hear about additional shows and special guests.
