Extreme heat and humidity increase the danger of heat-related illnesses, especially for people working outside or participating in outdoor activities, so the NWS said residents should drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, keep out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Residents can also take extra precautions such as rescheduling activities to early morning or evening when it is less hot, wearing lightweight and loose-fitting clothing and taking frequent breaks in an air-conditioned environment.
Children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles, as temperatures in vehicles can reach lethal levels in minutes.
