Scattered to numerous snow showers are expected today, while accumulations should generally be an inch or less, some snow squalls will be possible, especially during the afternoon and early evening.

Today will be cloudy but cold as highs rise near 25 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington. Tonight will be cloudy but very cold as lows fall near one degrees. Wind chill values will be as low as minus 11 degrees. Some wintry gusts of wind overnight may go from 9 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph.

The NWS said snow squalls can produce rapid changes in visibility and quick bursts of accumulation, creating hazardous travel conditions. It is recommended to reduce speed and turn on headlights and hazard lights if you have to travel outside and give yourself extra time. Bitterly cold conditions will be in place tonight through Wednesday morning.

There is an Extreme Cold Watch in effect starting at around 1 a.m. on Monday morning and continuing until around 10 a.m. on Wednesday, issued by the NWS. During that time, the NWS predicted dangerously cold temperatures, which could rupture water pipes.

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, it’ll be vastly cold with bright sunshine. Highs will be near 12 degrees, but wind chill values of minus 6 will make it feel much colder. Monday night will bring partly overcast skies as falls near four degrees.

Tuesday will be mostly sunny but cold with a high of 12 degrees, followed by a mostly clear overnight with a low of minus six degrees.

Wednesday brings mostly sunny skies with a high of 19 degrees. Overnight, it’ll be mostly overcast with lows in the lower teens.
