Wittenberg’s Matt Croci named NCAC Coach of the Year

Wittenberg Tigers coach Matt Croci was named the North Coast Athletic Conference Coach of the Year for the second time in four seasons Wednesday. He led Wittenberg to 25 regular-season victories, a 17-1 mark in the conference and a second regular-season championship in three seasons.

Senior guard Jake Bertemes was named the NCAC Defensive Player of the Year. He’s the fourth Wittenberg player in a row to win the award, following Mitch Balser, Chad Roy and Shane Edwards.

Senior forward Connor Seipel and junior forward James Johnson were named to the All-NCAC first team. Bertemes made the second team.

Wooster’s Danyon Hempy won the NCAC Player of the Year award, while Ohio Wesleyan freshman Grant Spicer was named the top newcomer.

Women's basketball: Wittenberg junior guard Delaney Williams was named the NCAC Defensive Player of the Year on Tuesday. She also made the NCAC second team along with teammate Kristie Kalis, a junior forward.

DePauw senior guard Sydney Kopp won the NCAC Player of the Year award, and DePauw’s Kris Huffman was named coach of the year after leading the team to a 16-0 league record. Allegheny freshman Zoe Youdell was named the conference’s top newcomer.

Ticket info: The Wittenberg men's season continues at 6 p.m. Friday when they play La Roche University in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament at Pam Evans Smith Arena. Benedictine University plays Susquehanna University at 3:30 p.m. in the other first-round game at Wittenberg.

Wittenberg will sell tickets for this weekend’s NCAA tournament games starting Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon in the Hall of Honor Room located off of the Legends Lobby in the HWA Complex. Tickets for the two first-round games will also be on sale at 2 p.m. Friday in the Hall of Honor Room, with one ticket good for both games.

Tickets for Saturday’s second-round game will go on sale at 4 p.m. in the Hall of Honor Room.

The tickets cost $12 for adults, $7 for seniors, students and children and are free for children two and under.
