Two Springfield grads find new homes in college football

Moses Douglass and Isaiah Gibson, teammates at Springfield High School and then the University of Kentucky, will play at different schools next season.

Douglass, a 6-foot-2, 219-pound defensive back, entered the transfer portal Dec. 11 and announced Jan. 14 his commitment to Kent State but then switched to Alabama A&M on Jan. 21. He redshirted in 2019 at Kentucky, appeared in seven games in 2020 and had four tackles in four games in 2021.

Gibson, a 6-3, 302-pound defensive tackle, entered the transfer portal Dec. 9 and committed to Marshall on Jan. 11.

Like Douglass, Gibson redshirted as a freshman in 2019. He appeared in nine games in 2020, totaling five tackles. He had five tackles in seven games last season.

Gibson and Douglass were members of Kentucky’s 2019 recruiting class. As seniors at Springfield, they helped lead the Wildcats to a 9-3 record in 2018 and the first playoff victory of Maurice Douglass’ tenure. Moses is the son of the Springfield head coach.
