HS Roundup 3/23: CJ beats Butler to start baseball season

Chaminade Julienne baseball opened up the season with a 9-1 win versus Butler on Saturday.

Nick Wissman struck out six and allowed one earned run on the mound for CJ.

Offensively Dylan Snyder doubled and drove in three runs, Andrew Simones had a pair of hits with one RBI and Jack Huffman plated a pair of runs.

Baseball

Carroll 7, Brookville 4: Trent Randall went 3-for-3 with a homer, a double and three RBI to pace Carroll. Jake Westgerdes added a homer and Steven Chapman was 4-for-4 with a double.

Centerville 4, Elder 0: Nick Hoffman struck out nine in the start, Jared Lieberman picked up the save and Ryan Stahl doubled and drove in a run to help Centerville open the season with a road win.

Fairfield 5, Olentangy Berlin 3: Cameron Tenhundfeld and Zach Edwards each had a pair of hits, Jarrett Hurst earned the win on the mound and Damian Hendricks notched the save for Fairfield.

Kenton Ridge 3, Waynesville 0: Matt Tateman had a double with two RBI, Calvin Dibert picked up the win on the mound and Chris Lyle tacked on the save for WLS. Brady Stone struck out 13 in a losing effort for Waynesville.

Madison 13, National Trail 3: Madison scored 10 unanswered runs to break open the game in the fifth and sixth innings.

New Bremen 10, Franklin Monroe 0: Spencer Alig pitched a perfect six innings with eight strikeouts to lead New Bremen.

Tri-Village 8, Preble Shawnee 4: Tri-Village took the lead early and held on in the second game of a doubleheader. Derek Eyer and Joseph McCombs each had a pair of RBI to lead TV. Preble Shawnee won the first game 10-6.

Tecumseh 2, Northeastern 1: Davey Berner pitched a complete game for Tecumseh, including working out of a bases-loaded jam in the final inning.

Softball

Ben Logan 13, New Bremen 1: Grace Deardurff tossed a one-hitter, doubled twice and drove in four runs for Ben Logan and Olivia Roose added four hits with five RBI.

Greenville 2, West Liberty-Salem 1: Grace Shaffer outdueled Kelsey Day on the mound and Greenville won in extra innings.

West Liberty-Salem 12, Wayne 2: Camrin Rice and Kayle Henderson each homered for WLS in the first game of a doubleheader.
