Prep wrestling: Graham advances all 14 wrestlers to district tourney

The first step toward an 18th consecutive Division II state title is off to a great start for the Graham High School wrestling team.

The Falcons won 12 of 14 weight classes in the Graham 1 sectional,and advanced wrestlers in all 14 weight classes to the district tournament next weekend. The top four placers in each weight class advanced.

The Falcons finished with 349 points, almost 200 points clear of runner-up Chaminade Julienne.

Graham got titles from Trace Braun (106), Tanner Jordan (113), Alek Martin (120), Nick Moore (126), J.D. Stickley (138), Mitch Moore (145), Joey Sanchez (152), Ryan Thomas (160), Rocky Jordan (170), Gage Braun (195), Johnny Shafer (220) and Khrizdon VanHoose (285). CJ won the other two weight classes.

Northwestern advanced six and placed fourth in the Graham 2 sectional team race.

Nathan Snyder (182)won the lone title for Northwestern.

Bryce Davis (120) of Kenton Ridge Gayn Grim (126) of Urbana also finished first

Division III

Defending state champ Mechanicsburg advanced seven to the district tournament, but it was not enough to overtake champion Versailles at Lehman Catholic.

The Indians got titles from Luke Stroud (106) and Dustin Knapp (160).

Levi Morrison won a title at 195 and was one of four Greenon wrestlers to advance, helping the Knights to a fifth-place finish at Covington.

Greeneview was right behind Greenon thanks to titles from Devan Hendricks at 126 and Chase Jordan at 285. The Rams advanced five to district.

Jesse Mitchell’s title at 160 will lead a contingent of four Southeastern wrestlers out of the Covington sectional.

Division I

Tecumseh advanced six to district from the Centerville 2 sectional.

The Arrows finished fourth, and had three wrestlers vying for sectional titles.

Springfield advanced three on from the Centerville 1 sectional en route to a second-place finish .

Joe Cochran remained undefeated at 220 with a title while Jacob Yost claimed the title at 170.

The Division I district will be held at Trent Arena in Kettering while D-II is at Wilmington and D-III heads to Hobart Arena in Troy next Friday and Saturday. The top four in each district advance to the state tournament March 8-10 at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus.
