New assistants, Wittenberg coach to speak at Ohio State football coaches clinic

Beginning at 6 p.m. on April 11, the clinic will run through the spring game, which is set to begin at noon April 13.

New head coach Ryan Day is also among the list of speakers along with OSU receivers coach Brian Hartline and offensive line coach Greg Studrawa, Boston College head coach Steve Addazio and leadership expert Tim Kight.

Day is to present on organizing a game plan while Yurcich will speak about quarterback footwork and drills as well as the intermediate passing game.

Mattison’s speech is to cover Ohio State’s defensive philosophy, which is getting a makeover after the 2018 Buckeyes allowed more points and yards than any unit in school history, and goals, while Hafley is to speak about defensive back techniques.

Washington will talk to coaches about “the art of confrontation” and defeating blocks while Barnes’ speech is to cover “coaching fundamentals through special teams.”

Clinic activities will also include “Ohio’s Finest” awards going to Cincinnati St. Xavier’s Steve Specht and Cleveland Glenville’s Ted Ginn Sr., both long-time Ohio high school coaches, along with former Ohio State players Ted Ginn Jr. and Chris Spielman.

Fincham has been the head coach at Wittenberg since 1996.

At 210-45, he is the Tigers’ all-time winningest coach and has led the program to 14 North Coast Athletic Conference titles and 13 playoff appearances.

The West Virginia native and former captain at Ohio University is the 10-time NCAC coach of the year.
