KR beat Northwestern in the best-of-three Baker games 226-143 and 233-179 to reach the finals. KR topped Shawnee 185-175 and 202-185 for the championship.
“We have three great bowlers and the others hit their spots,” Kenton Ridge senior Maverick Duncan. “Me and (senior teammate) Brandon (Watkins) were thinking about winning county (as individuals). Once that wasn’t happening we said let’s win this as a team. Let’s bring this home for the team.”
Second-seeded Northwestern won the girls championship against No. 1 Springfield 162-172, 222-139 and 199-180.
Southeastern freshman Travis Adkins was the individual boys champion after rolling a three-game 685 series (247-244-194) prior to the Baker rounds. Springfield junior Katelyn Shaffer won the girls title with a 613 (211-192-213).

Adkins, ranked No. 10 in the Ohio Heritage Conference with a 181 average, wasn’t expecting the title especially after Northwestern senior Ryan Hays rolled a 300 in the first game.
“Not really. Mainly just hoping the ball would react to the lanes,” said Adkins, who trailed Hays by 53 pins after the first game. “Mainly just hope for the best and the pins would fall down.”
In addition to Adkins, Shawnee’s RJ Rollins (677), Springfield’s Cullen Rogan (673), Northwestern’s Hays (672), Northwestern’s Alex Bainbridge (647), KR’s Watkins (637), Shawnee’s Nate Fowler (630), Northwestern’s JJ Legge (619), KR’s Riley Leedale (616) and Shawnee’s Trynton Parker (609) made the all-county team.
The girls team included Shaffer, KR’s Jordan Rucker (604), Northwestern’s Magan Fricke (590), Tecumseh’s Alaina Collins (570), Springfield’s Ashley Falke (567), Northwestern’s Kacie Russell (555), KR’s Erika Haffner (551), Northwestern’s Allie Barrett (545) and Leah Bainbridge (544) and Springfield’s McKenzie Burkhardt (526).
Northwestern’s girls entered the county tournament leading the CBC Mad River at 11-0. They continued their roll by beating No. 3 Tecumseh 215-155 and 211-157 in the semifinals and No. 1Springfield in the finals. No. 4 Kenton Ridge also made the semifinals.
“They fought back all day. They did good,” Northwestern assistant coach Toby Spencer said. “That’s a very good day for the team. All the girls did well.”
As for the KR boys, they look to carry the momentum into CBC play. KR is 7-2 in the Kenton Trail Division and trails Jonathan Alder (10-1) and Shawnee (8-2). KR is at Jonathan Alder on Monday and hosts Shawnee on Jan. 22.
“It’s a tough competition all the way around. Any time you come up to the Clark County area there’s a lot of good bowlers and a lot of good teams,” KR boys coach Jim Preston said. “It’s always a challenge. We’ll take it. … All of them stepped up at the end. They all did their jobs one frame at a time.”
