YELLOW SPRINGS — Two Yellow Springs High School swimmers are taking their talents to the Division I level.
Seniors Erika Chick and Elizabeth Malone will swim at Cornell University and St. Bonaventure University, respectively, next season.
National Signing Day is being held today across the country.
Malone, who specializes in the butterfly, said she chose the Bonnies over Eastern Michigan and Ashland University. She said she liked both her future teammates and the atmosphere at the school located in western New York.
“I’m really excited,” Malone said. “I’m really happy with the opportunity the coaches gave me.”
Chick, who specializes in the backstroke and the butterfly, said she knew immediately she wanted to compete at Cornell. She loved the campus, the academics and her coach.
“I’m super excited and ready to go,” Chick said. “After the visit, I pretty much knew where I wanted to go.”
The duo are two of seven swimmers on the Bulldogs squad. Malone said it’s great to team up with another D-I swimmer.
“It’s really cool for our school,” Malone said.
