High school football: Catholic Central announces new coach

Ryan West is set to become the new head coach of Springfield Catholic Central football.

CCHS athletics director Erin Mullins made the announced Friday afternoon.

“After an extensive search and thoughtful consideration, we are delighted to welcome Ryan West as our new head football coach,” Mullins said in a news release. “Coach West brings not only a wealth of experience and enthusiasm but a steadfast commitment to developing well-rounded student-athletes. His passion for the game and his dedication to fostering a positive, hardworking environment will provide our athletes with an experience that prepares them for success on the field and in life.”

A Lebanon High School grad, West was an All-GWOC defensive back before playing at Wittenberg for two years.

He spent the past three seasons at Little Miami High School as a math teacher, defensive backs coach and special teams coordinator.

“It is an incredible honor to accept the role of head football coach at Catholic Central,” West said in the release. “I’m eager to bring my passion, experience, and commitment to excellence to this storied program. I look forward to working alongside our talented student-athletes, staff, and the entire Catholic Central community to build upon the school’s proud tradition of success.”

West is set to be introduced to the community Feb. 14 when the Fighting Irish host Cedarville for the last boys basketball regular season game.

“Erin Mullins led a thorough, two-round interview process, gathering input from a broad committee that included current and former coaches, alumni, parents, students, and administrators,” principal Kathy Anderson said in the news release. “Throughout this process, Coach West emphasized his unwavering focus on developing a student-athlete-centered program.”
