Josh Wooten is the new football coach at Greenon High School.

Wooten, a third-grade teacher in the district, was recently approved by the Greenon Board of Education.

“We are excited to welcome Josh as our head coach,” Superintendent Mr. Brad Silvus said in a release. “Josh not only has experience as a coach at other schools, but as a teacher at Indian Valley Intermediate School, he has proven that he has the ability to build relationships and make an impact on our students. We look forward to his leadership for our student athletes on and off the field at Greenon High School in the fall.”

Wooten has 19 years of association with Greenon Local Schools as a student and teacher.

Wooten served as an assistant coach at Fairmont High School for four years and as the defensive coordinator at Greenon for three seasons. He also was an assistant at Centerville and Fayetteville-Perry.

Wooten succeeds Kevin Ferguson, who was 0-30 in three seasons. Greenon has won just two games since 2012 and takes a 31-game losing streak into its Ohio Heritage Conference season debut this fall after jumping from the CBC following the end of this school year.
