Catholic Central grad Jason Collier inducted into Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame

Jason Collier, who led Catholic Central to a state championship in boys basketball in 1996, was inducted into the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame on Saturday night in Columbus.

Jeff Collier, Jason’s dad, accepted the honor on his behalf. Jason died of an enlarged heart on Oct. 15, 2005, just before the start of his sixth season in the NBA. He was 28 years old.

The Jason Collier Sportsmanship Award is given each year to a player in the NBA G League.

Collier, a 7-foot center, played two seasons at Indiana before transferring to Georgia Tech. He scored 1,345 points in his college career.

In his NBA career, Collier played three seasons with the Houston Rockets and two with the Atlanta Hawks.

Collier, who was named Mr. Ohio Basketball in 1996, scored 1,761 career points and had 1,068 career rebounds at Catholic Central.
