Brueninghaus, Gerhard
Gerhard Brueninghaus, beloved father, brother and friend passed away peacefully on December 24, 2024, at the age of 88. He was born on July 2, 1936, in Ebstorf, Germany and made the courageous decision to migrate to the United States in 1959. Gerhard proudly served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1965, achieving the rank of First Lieutenant with duties as a Senior Rifleman, and PC Driver. After his honorable discharge, he dedicated over 25 years of his life to West Milton Precision Machine and Tool in Vandalia, OH where he retired with the respect and admiration of his colleagues. An active member of the Dayton Liederkranz-Turner, Kettering American Legion Post 598, and The Dayton Ski and Board Club; Gerhard cherished his community involvement. In his later years he found joy in Saturday visits to Dorothy Lane Market's wine tastings, where he enjoyed connecting with friends and neighbors. Gerhard was the epitome of strength, determination, and charisma leaving a lasting impact on everyone he met. He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Elli Brueninghaus; his brothers, Herman, Erich, Dieter, and his sisters, Lenchen, Elsa, Irmgard and Ingrid. He is survived by his sister, Erika Schomueller (Georg), his beloved son, Mark Brueninghaus (Tim) and special friends, Guy and Peggy who will forever cherish his memory. A memorial service to honor Gerhard's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Dayton Liederkranz-Turner 1400 E. 51h St. Dayton, OH 45402 and/or Hospice of Dayton 324 Wilmington Ave. Dayton, OH 45419 in honor of his legacy.
