Clark County native Wyatt McCubbin came back home from Nashville to film a music video for his new song, “This Pickup,” and locals might very well recognize the background.

And if a new song and new music video weren’t enough big news, last weekend McCubbin opened for some country music heavyweights, including Luke Combs, Lainey Wilson, Whiskey Jam and Dierks Bentley.

“It was as cool as it gets,” McCubbin said. “I’ve known Lainey and Luke for a while now, so to see their careers explode has been so amazing. And of course, well deserved.”

Wilson was headlining her first arena show, and McCubbin was happy to be part of it.

“Those kinds of shows feel like a jump from the minor leagues to the majors!” he said. “I feel like people take your show way more serious when those kinds of dates are on the books.”

He said he has seen more engagement and interaction on social media since those dates were announced.

“I am feeling more than blessed after that run,” he said. “It was the biggest one yet for me.”

What a weekend.. Y’all were a blast to play some country music for! Huge THANKS to Lainey Wilson, Luke Combs, Whiskey Jam & Dierks Bentley for having us! 📸1: Joshua West 📸2: Sam Harris

His new music video filmed in his hometown takes place at the popular “Crybaby Bridge,” which is on Garlough Road between North River Road and South River Road over the Little Miami River.

“I’m sure it won’t take my hometown, Ohio folks very long to recognize and know exactly where we took the picture and shot the video,” said McCubbin in a Facebook post. “Everyone where I’m from knows that spot, and it holds all kinds of nostalgia ... and spray paint!”

McCubbin, 28, has been performing for years across the nation, starting with local concerts since the days he was a teenage student at Southeastern High School.

He now resides in Nashville, where is he is a singer-songwriter and has written songs for Tracy Lawrence, John Schneider, Josh Ward, Jake Worthington, Jacob Bryant and others, according to his website.

He said when he wrote “This Pickup,” he had only one truck in mind, “and that was my 1963 Ford F-100 that I restored with my grandpa when I was just 15 years old.”

That memory prompted him to come home to shoot photos and the video with that pickup in a nostalgic place.

“That place for me was Crybaby Bridge, a spot near my hometown of Selma, Ohio, with a lot of history and just as much mystery behind why it’s called what it’s called,” said McCubbin in a post. “It was a really fun, cool way for me to bring my life back in Ohio together with my current life, music and brand in Nashville.”

❗️OUT NOW❗️ #ThisPickup is a song I’ve been holding onto for a while now & waiting for the right time to share it with...
