Wife of Springfield business executive killed in I-70 crash

A crash on I-70 in Madison County last week took the life of a Columbus woman who was part of a prominent Springfield family.

Jessica Ross Sheehan, 33, was killed Wednesday, Aug. 21, when a box truck went across the I-70 median near Ohio 42 into oncoming eastbound traffic and struck her car, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Jessica Ross Sheehan was the wife of Patrick Sheehan, president of Sheehan Brothers Vending, a nearly 70-year-old Springfield company.

The box truck was traveling westbound on I-70 around 3:20 p.m. Aug. 21 before going through a cable barrier and across the median. WBNS in Columbus cited OSHP as saying the driver and a passenger of the box truck were not injured, but that drugs were suspected to be a factor in the crash, and the investigation was ongoing.

According to an obituary posted by Patrick Sheehan, Jessica was headed toward Columbus that day “after spending a beautiful day with family in Springfield.”

Sheehan Brothers Vending issued a statement of appreciation “for every single person that has reached out to us” expressing condolences, and asked that the family’s privacy be respected.

Jessica Ross Sheehan graduated from Ohio University in 2013 before moving to Columbus, and then marrying Patrick in July 2021. Her obituary says she “recently found her passion” as a real estate agent.

A funeral service was held Sunday in the Cleveland area, where she grew up. A celebration of life is planned at 11 a.m. Sept. 14 at the Franklin Park Conservatory in Columbus.
