Here is a look at events happening in the area this weekend:

School theater performance

Students in the Springfield High School Theatre Department will welcome in the winter season with three upcoming performances of “The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe.”

This dramatization of C.S. Lewis’ classic work faithfully recreates the magic and mystery of Aslan, the great lion, his struggle with the White Witch and the adventures of four children who inadvertently wander from an old wardrobe into the exciting, never-to-be-forgotten Narnia.

Performances will be 7 p.m. Friday, and two performances at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday. All shows are held at the Springfield City School District’s John Legend Theater, 700 S. Limestone St.

Student/senior tickets are $7, and adult tickets are $10. Tickets are available at http://jlttickets.org.

Christmas in the Village

Our Towne Mechanicsburg volunteers will present the Christmas in the Village event starting at 9 a.m. Saturday in downtown Mechanicsburg.

The day will include Pancakes & PJ’s Christmas Party, Arts & Crafts Show, 1876 School House, musical performances, cookie cutter bake sale, lunch, gingerbread house contest, family photo booth, bounce house, DIY ornaments, games and crafts, letters to Santa, reading and story time, area businesses, scavenger hunt, horse-drawn wagons, parade and basket raffle.

Walk with a Doc

Mercy Health – Springfield’s Cardiologist Dr. Tariq Rizvi will take part in a Walk with a Doc event at 9 a.m. Saturday at Springfield Health and Fitness, 202 N. Limestone St.

Walkers of all ages, fitness levels, and backgrounds are invited to attend these walks. Dr. Rizvi will begin the event with a brief discussion on heart health, and then participants can spend the rest of the hour enjoying a walk and conversation, including any questions they may have for the physician.

The walk will take place on the bike path behind the gym as long as the weather is nice. In the event of inclement weather, the event will take place in the Cardio Room.

Breakfast with Santa

Breakfast with Santa will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Covenant UMC, 529 W. Johnny Lytle Ave. Breakfast is at 10:15 a.m.

This event, which is for children up to age 12, is sponsored by CareSource and Covenant’s Dinner Box Movement.

Adoption event

Barely Used Pets will host an adoption event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at 844 Jackson Hill Road in Urbana.

Winter Second Saturday

Second Saturday: Walking in a Winter Wonderland will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday in downtown Urbana.

This event will feature holiday gifts from local businesses, seasonal decorations and displays, beverages and food, live music and entertainment.

Holiday in the Hangar

Holiday in the Hangar will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Champaign Aviation Museum, 1652 N. Main St. in Urbana.

This family-friendly afternoon will include hot chocolate and cookies, kids crafts, live Christmas music by pianist Halee Reddick, and a special visit from Mr. and Mrs. Claus.

House museum tours

The Pennsylvania House Museum, 1311 W. Main St., will be open for tours from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Admission is $10 for adults and $3 for children for all dates.

Christmas show

A Solo Acoustic Christmas Show with Tony Powell will be held from 6-9 p.m. Saturday at Frosty’s Good Food And Fine Spirits, 2369 Upper Valley Pike.

Holiday music event

United Senior Services (USS) will host the 7th annual Red Hot Holiday Stomp, featuring Todd Stoll Septet, at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Metropolis, 102 W. High St.

Headlining the event is Springfield native Stoll, vice president of education at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City and a leading voice in jazz education and performance. He began his career as a music educator in the Columbus area and founded the Columbus Jazz Youth Orchestra before his move to NYC.

Advance tickets are on sale at United Senior Services, 125 W Main St. Tickets are $10 for USS members and $15 for nonmembers when purchased by Dec. 13 at USS. Advance tickets for will-call pickup are also available for $20 by calling USS at 937-323-4948. Tickets at the door the night of the performance will be $20. Space is limited.

Pet photos with Santa

Bark the Halls: Pet Photos with Santa will be held Sunday at Wags Bakery, 321 N. Main St.

Bring your pets for a special holiday photo with Santa, with holiday decor provided by Farm Charm. Attendees will receive a 5x7 print of your pet and digital copies will be uploaded to Facebook for you to share.

This is a donation-based event, with all proceeds supporting Barely Used Pets.

Holiday music

Bill Purk and friends will provide holiday entertainment, “Purk & Friends,” with Majesty Quartet at 6 p.m. Sunday at Mechanicsburg Methodist Church.

Holiday brewing event

Hops & Hymns will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Urbana Brewing Co.

There will be craft beer and Christmas carols, with sheet music provided.

The kitchen will be closed and bar service only starts at 6:30 p.m. Non-alcoholic beverages will also be available.

This is a free event. A freewill donation will be taken for the family and senior recipients of Champaign County Community Christmas.
