A look at events happening in the area this week:

Mausoleum Crawl

Ferncliff Cemetery will hold its 6th annual Mausoleum Crawl tonight.

These evening lantern tours will be led by Kevin Rose of the Turner Foundation and Hartman Garden. Participants have an opportunity to listen to the history of some of Springfield’s well-known early residents while being able to enter the open mausoleums.

Registration each night will begin at 5 p.m. with the crawl beginning at 6 p.m. Lanterns are provided. Suggested donation is $10 per person. This is a strenuous walking tour, including hills. Reservations are required and can be made by calling the cemetery office at 937-322-3491.

Master Gardener Class

Are you interested in becoming a Master Gardener Volunteer? A new MGV Training class will be offered in 2024, beginning in January and running for 10 weeks.

The Clark County MGV will be offering an open house from 6 to 7 p.m. tonight at the OSU Clark Extension office.

Bible Study

Retired Grace Bible Church pastor and Bible teacher Marv Wiseman will offers a Men’s Bible study at 7 a.m. today at Studebaker Restaurant.

The study is open to men regardless of church affiliation. Books of the Bible are presented as well as practical application of the Scriptures. For more information, call or text 937-572-6707 or email danmeckstroth@gmail.com.

Mercy Health Series

Breast surgeon Dr. Colleen Alexander and breast cancer patient navigator Tracy Adrian, RN, will speak on the topic of breast cancer in the October edition of the Mercy Health Speaker Series.

October is known as Breast Cancer Awareness Month to raise awareness of the disease and impact it can have. Breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women in the U.S, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

This event will focus on sharing information about breast health, cancer, diagnosis, and treatment options. The speaking event will take place on Wednesday from 12 to 1 p.m., both online via Zoom and in-person at COhatch the Market, 100 S. Fountain Ave., in the Corner Conference Room.

Community Meal

Pointe of Grace Church (Formerly New Beginnings UMC) will host a community meal at 6 p.m. and prayer gathering at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at 5065 Old Mechanicsburg Road.

Fireside Frights

National Trail Parks and Recreation District (NTPRD) officials will host Fireside Frights on Wednesday from 7 to 8:15 p.m. at the Davidson Interpretive Center to those ages 13 and older.

A 19th-century costumed storyteller will share frightening stories from the past while gathered around a fireplace. This program is preferable for those with mobility issues.

Aging Program

A free program that helps older adults age well in their senior years is being offered at the Urbana Champaign County Senior Center and will feature several Mercy Health experts.

The Aging Mastery Program (AMP) is hosting this series of one-hour sessions to help seniors learn more about the key steps they can take to improve their well-being, add stability to their life, and strengthen community ties.

Offered through the Area Agency on Aging, PSA 2, the speaker series will be held from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday with a presentation by Christa Sisler on advance planning.

Clark State Trick-or-Treat

Clark State College will host a trick-or-treat event for the community from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, where college staff guide guests throughout the campus buildings for a traditional trick-or-treat, as well as crafts and other activities.

Most of the activities will be inside, but some spaces outside will also be used, depending on the weather. Participants will be able to meet college students, staff, faculty and other community partners. The Springfield Promise Neighborhood will provide family-friendly activities, including “kindness rocks,” distribution of children’s books for free, and information about upcoming events and activities for families.

This free event will begin in the TLC building on the main campus, 570 E. Leffel Lane. Families can park in the main lot on the southwest side of the campus, just off of Leffel Lane, and there will be helpers in the parking lot for those who need additional assistance.

West Liberty Halloween

West Liberty’s second annual Halloween Spooktacular will be held on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.

There will be pumpkin painting and carving, face painting, two inflatables, Spooky tunes by DJ Skelly, a toddler area, food trucks, 200 free hot dogs, cotton candy, games and more.
