Sounds like Serna did expect to fail a drug test before the shooting that was going to prevent him from wrestling. That was a rumor following the shooting.

“With the drug test I knew there was some way to alleviate the penalty. I was stressed out by it and I knew that if i went into school tomorrow I could ask about directly to the AD or AP if I was interrupting the handbook right. I knew that if I wasn’t then then I figured CONT.
