“Our suspect drove from (the homicide scene) to Kroger on Derr Road, called dispatch and advised what he had done, and then took off and during a pursuit, told dispatch that he was going to have some fun before he died,” Curtis said.
During the call, Casimir said he shot his ex-girlfriend, identified in the police report as Rodline Anacreon, for kicking him out the previous night. He said he had the gun with him in his lap while parked at the nearby Kroger.
Police were in pursuit on U.S. 68 southbound, when they said it appeared Casimir shot himself while driving. He ran off the road just north of Ohio 41.
The man was taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center, and then to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, which is the region’s top trauma center.
“He led our officers on a pursuit northbound on Derr, to 334, over to 68, and then southbound on 68,” Lt. Curtis said. “While our cars were behind him, they observed what looked like a gunshot ... and he veered off the road and crashed.”
Curtis said when officers approached the vehicle, Casimir had a gunshot wound to his head.
“There was no exchange of gunfire. Our officers didn’t fire any rounds at all,” Curtis said.
A car could be seen in a ditch off the west side of U.S. 68 Wednesday night. EMS crews could be seen loading the man into an ambulance at that scene, while police officers observed.
Around 7:30 p.m., both sides of U.S. 68 were closed. Just before 8 p.m., the northbound side of U.S. 68 was reopened, but the southbound side remained closed longer, from Ohio 334 south to Ohio 41.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that the person found dead off Villa Road was a woman. The county prosecutor and crime scene investigators were on the scene just after 8 p.m.
In a 911 call, a woman who identified herself as the victim’s sister, said Casimir had threatened to shoot the victim twice in the head for leaving him a few days prior. She said she was inside the apartment building and her sister was outside on the sidewalk, and she was unsure if she was breathing.
Other callers detailed hearing six gunshots and a woman screaming and speaking Haitian Creole.
