A 45-year-old Springfield man was killed Thursday afternoon in a two-car crash near Springfield.

John Dooley was pronounced dead at the scene by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

The crash happened at 3:10 p.m. on state Route 41 near Titus Road in Springfield Twp., according to the Springfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Dooley was driving a 2019 Kia Forte north on state Route 41 when he struck the passenger side of a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser also headed north that had slowed to turn right into a private drive. Dooley’s car continued on and struck a utility pole. He was not wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.

The driver of the Chrysler, 27-year-old Bryan Harrah of South Charleston, and his passenger were both properly restrained and were not injured.

“Wearing a seat belt and properly utilizing child restraints is the easiest and most effective safety device we have in vehicles today. Seat belts save lives,” Lt. Robert Hilderbrandt said.

The crash remains under investigation.

The Ohio Department of Transportation and Springfield Twp. Fire and EMS also assisted troopers.
