Law enforcement agencies and officials across the Miami Valley and Ohio expressed condolences after a Clark County Sheriff’s deputy was killed Sunday in the line of duty.

Matthew Yates, 41, was shot while responding to a 911 call regarding a person shot at a mobile home in Harmony Twp., according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies and other law enforcement were not able to reach Yates for hours. When they did get to him inside the residence, the mobile home caught fire.

CareFlight took Yates to Miami Valley Hospital, where the 15-year veteran, husband and father died from injuries. Two other people also died during the incident, according to family members of the man who lived in the mobile home.

In the aftermath of the shooting, multiple law enforcement agencies and officials offered thoughts and prayers to Yates’ family and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
