Local Congressman Jim Jordan will soon become the top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee, the committee that finalized the two articles of impeachment late last year, The Hill and Politico reported late Thursday.

Jordan, R-Urbana, was one of Trump’s biggest defenders during the impeachment hearings last year and during the Senate trial. Jordan also served as a temporary member of the Intelligence Committee during the impeachment hearings.

"The move essentially installs two of President Trump's fiercest allies on top committees, giving the administration two strong supporters to combat Democrats' next investigations into the White House," The Hill reported.

Jordan would replace Rep. Doug Collins as ranking member of the committee. Collins is running for the Senate.

The Republican conference needs to approve Jordan for the post, according to Politico.
