Springfield woman indicted after allegedly kicking officer in the groin

A Springfield woman has been indicted after allegedly raising her child in a “deplorable home,” and kicking a Springfield Police Divison officer in the groin.

Chelsea Reed, 25, was indicted in Clark County Common Pleas Court this week on charges of assault and endangering children. As of Tuesday afternoon, she was not listed as an inmate in the Clark County Jail

Reed was arrested on Sept. 13 after police were dispatched to the 500 block of Murray Street in reference to “two juveniles being kicked out of a black SUV,” according to an affidavit filed in the case.

When police arrived on the scene, they were greeted by Reed who was sitting on the steps of her home with her child. She told officers she was “never in a black SUV and that she had been sitting on her steps.”

“Officers observed Reed to possibly be under the influence of some sort of drug. Officers asked Reed if she had done any drugs. Reed advised officers that she had taken Xanax and was drinking alcohol earlier in the day,” the affidavit said.

Officers asked Reed if they could look inside her home and she agreed.

“Officers discovered the house to be in deplorable conditions. There were animal feces on the floor, clutter and garbage all throughout the house, the refrigerator had expired food and empty alcoholic beverages containers on the floor,” the affidavit said.

After looking around the home, officer told Reed she was under arrest for child endangering “due to the deplorable living conditions, being under the influence of drugs and alcohol and being unable to take care of herself or the child.”

Reed resisted officers attempting to place handcuffs by “tensing up and flaring her arms.” After a brief struggle, officers were able to place her in handcuffs. However, she continued to “resist and be combative while being taken to the cruiser,” the affidavit said.

“While placing Reed into (Officer’s) cruiser, Reed kicked me in the groin region causing injury,” the affidavit said.
