Learning options will soon be open for Springfield City School District students in preparation of starting the second semester amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Families are being asked to choose either in-person or virtual learning for their child for the second semester, which will be from Jan. 4 to May 25, according to Superintendent Bob Hill.

“Designate your choice of virtual or in person learning by completing the building survey emailed to parents/guardians on Nov. 2,” Hill said.

Hill is asking families to begin a discussion to determine which learning option works best for their child.

“Consider the following when making your decision: Does your child excel in a virtual environment? Does the household parent/guardian work schedule support a virtual option for your child? Are there any health-related risks that would factor into your decision at this time?," he said.

Hill added that if families are having trouble making a learning decision, they can reach out to the district for assistance.

“If you are having trouble making this important learning decision for your child, and need additional assistance, please reach out to the building principal or your child’s teacher,” he said. “Your child’s success, along with the safety of our students, is our number one priority in the Springfield City School District.”

Families are also being asked to complete a survey, found on the district’s website and Facebook page, to provide feedback on the students learning experience so far this year.

“The SCSD Team has worked tirelessly to provide a safe and clean working environment. I thank each one of them for their dedication to the children in our district,” Hill said.

SCSD started school in August using a combination of in-person and remote learning.
