“Upon arrival, officers observed a red GMC Yukon, with heavy front-end damage, and multiple blood trails in the area,” the report stated. “The vehicle had crashed into an Ohio Edison utility pole, causing it to break, and landed on the front fence of (an address on) Dibert Avenue.”
A witness on scene told officers that he heard three to five gunshots and then the vehicle crash. He also said he found a man in his front yard that had an apparent gunshot wound, but when he tried to help, the man ran northbound with two other men, the report stated.
Officers then reported to dispatch that shots had been fired in connection to this crash, so other officers responded to Springfield Medical Regional Center to look for a shooting victim.
“While there, (a victim) came into the hospital with a gunshot wound to the back, left side of his head,” the report stated.
Officers asked the victim about the incident and he would not give any details, but officers confirmed he was associated to the crash.
The victim’s condition was not known as of Tuesday morning.
No other witness or suspect information was available.
Springfield police continue their investigation into this incident.
