Sharon Wilmore, a veteran of more than two decades of news experience in Michigan and Ohio, has been named as the new Springfield News-Sun editor and chief of Cox Media Group Ohio’s Clark County Bureau.

Wilmore has been a manager guiding community reporters and crime coverage for the Dayton Daily News since 2014. She joined CMGO on the copy desk in 2010 after 12 years as an editor for the Detroit Free Press on lifestyle and community coverage. She has been active in numerous industry diversity efforts, edited special projects, been a literacy tutor and remains active with the Delta Sigma Theta public service sorority.

“We have a great team and we’ll keep covering the most important news of Clark and Champaign county for our readers, viewers and listeners,” Wilmore said.

In Springfield Sharon succeeds former editor Samantha Sommer, who has taken a new role within Cox Media Group Ohio. Wilmore will oversee a highly integrated newsroom that includes TV All-Media Journalists who are on air daily on WHIO-TV as well as a photographer, videographer and AMJs and reporters. The team works together to keep Clark County residents informed through our premium website SpringfieldNewsSun.com, that community’s free digital product, WHIO.com, and the award-winning Springfield News-Sun newspaper.

Wilmore will begin in her new role May 14.
