Springfield firefighters battle blaze on southeast side of city

Four Springfield fire engines responded to a house fire Thursday afternoon on the city’s southeast side.

The fire happened in the 1300 block of Selma Road in a two-story house.

The house was vacant and boarded, according Springfield Fire Rescue Division officials. The house had no electricity.

Firefighters were able to mostly contain the fire to the first floor.

Heavy smoke was showing when they arrived, and Selma Road was closed near Kenwood Avenue.
