The proposed project has received some criticism as well. Members of the Central Regional Planning Commission had previously recommended against the proposed zoning change, arguing the current proposal would allow homes to be built too close together.
The zoning change approval is just an early step in the process to allow the development to move forward, said Tom Franzen, assistant city manager and director of economic development for Springfield.
