Southeastern schools to release students early today because of heat

Southeastern Local Schools will release students early today.

The district is releasing students two hours early due to the excessive heat in the building, according to a post on its Facebook page.

The Jr./Sr. High School classes normally end at 3 p.m. and Miami View Elementary school at 3:10 p.m., according to the website.

Today and Wednesday will be very hot and humid with highs in the low to mid-90s and heat index values, or the “feels like” temperature, close to 100, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

A heat advisory is in effect from noon today through 8 p.m. Wednesday according to NWS. During the advisory, high temperatures and humidity will create heat index values up to 102, which can cause heat illnesses.
