Jenkins worked for the Clark County Sheriff’s Office starting in September, and has been in law enforcement in the Miami Valley for about five years.
Jenkins studied mechanical engineering at the University of Dayton, where she attended the student police academy, discovering “her true calling,” according to her obituary. She graduated from the Sinclair Law Enforcement Academy in July 2020 and started work at the Colerain Police Department.
The deputy also worked four years with the Cedarville Police Department, where she also provided security for Gov. Mike DeWine and comedian Dave Chapelle. according to her obituary.
She was an artist and loved to draw, paint and play music, particularly voila and guitar. She was an animal lover and is remembered “for her sweetness and sensitivity to those around her.”
“Summer will forever be missed by those who loved her, and she leaves behind a legacy that will never be forgotten,” her obituary states.
Jenkins was celebrated in a procession featuring dozens of law enforcement members Thursday. Her cause of death was kept private but it was not in the line of duty.
