Restaurant serving home-cooked meals opens today in Springfield

A new restaurant featuring home-cooked BBQ and Caribbean meals using fresh ingredients is opening today in Springfield.

“This is a dream come true,” Troy Wheat, the owner and chef of All Seasons, said.

All Seasons is located at 1928 Mitchell Boulevard. The building previously housed Big Jim’s Coney’s & Subs.

Wheat said that he and his wife, Nina, started serving food from under a tent in Columbus and then grew the business into a food truck.

“I love food. My wife loves people. That’s why we make a great team. She runs the front and I run the back,” Wheat said.

The couple’s food truck traveled around the Columbus area and has recently been located on S. Limestone St. every Wednesday, Wheat said.

The couple was approached by Jim Lopez Jr., the former owner of Big Jim’s Coney’s & Subs, with the opportunity to move into his restaurant location, Wheat said.

He said he didn’t expect to move into a permanent location so soon after starting the food truck about a year ago, but “when you’re passionate about something and you’re good to people, good things come back.”

Wheat told the News-Sun that he has been in the restaurant business for over 20 years. He has worked at casual, fine dining and Italian restaurants.

“I have always had a passion for cooking; it resonates in our family,” Wheat said.

All Seasons will feature ribs, chicken wings, jerk chicken, curry chicken, shrimp, salmon, burgers, macaroni and cheese, greens and cornbread. They will also have baked goods.

Wheat said they are planning to have specials throughout the week including Taco Tuesday, Wing Wednesday, Pasta Thursday and Fish Fry Friday. Meals cost around $10, he said.

The couple has renovated the building.

“When you walk in here, you feel at home,” Wheat said.

Even though they have a brick-and-mortar location, Wheat said they are still planning to keep their food truck in operation.

The couple said they are also planning to become involved in the Springfield community through assisting the homeless and the youth. Wheat said they serve meals to homeless people in Columbus once a month.

All Seasons is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday for carryout, curbside pickup and DoorDash. Wheat said they are temporarily not offering indoor dining because of the coronavirus pandemic.
