Report: Springfield man stabbed in back of head during altercation

Springfield police are investigating after a man was reportedly stabbed Saturday night during an altercation.

Officers were dispatched around 9:40 p.m. on Saturday to the 1800 block of Norwood Avenue in reference to an assault with injury, according to a Springfield police report.

When police arrived, they spoke with the reporting person who said there were multiple people in the backyard when an altercation happened.

“She then said (a family member) was stabbed in the head but had already left prior to police arrival,” the report stated.

The reporting person then gave police permission to search the backyard where they found a stainless-steel pocketknife.

At this time, dispatch told officers a man just walked into the Springfield Regional Medical Center stating he was stabbed in the head.

When police arrived to SRMC, the victim said there was an altercation between him and a family member.

“(The family member) allegedly pulled a black pocketknife from his pocket and extended it. The two individuals then became involved in a physical altercation which resulted in (the family member) stabbing (the victim) in the back of the head, causing serious physical harm,” the report stated.

The victim said he was taken to SRMC by a private vehicle to be treated for his injuries.
