When police arrived, they met with a woman who said the victim, who has not yet been identified, was shot inside the residence.
“Officers entered the residence and found (the victim) with multiple gunshot wounds to his leg and upper torso,” the report stated.
Medics arrived on scene and started treating the victim, who was pronounced dead by medics while still inside the residence.
This is the sixth homicide in Springfield this year.
Officers on Tuesday night said the shooting is being investigated as a homicide.
Yellow crime tape surrounded the Light Street house as the investigation was taking place Tuesday night, and Springfield police also had South Light Street blocked by Fulton Elementary School.
The Clark County Coroner’s Office also responded to the scene. The Springfield News-Sun has reached out to the coroner’s office for more information.
No suspect or witness information was available, and this shooting remains under investigation.
Aside from Tuesday’s shooting, the most recent homicide happened on Aug. 24.
That morning, Springfield police found Nathan Zimmerman, 19, lying in the back of a Honda Accord in the area of Clifton and East Euclid avenues, according to the Clark County Coroner’s Office and a Springfield police report. He was taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
