Report: Man stabbed during attempted robbery in Springfield

Officers were dispatched around 11:45 p.m. on Sunday to Springfield Regional Medical Center regarding a robbery, according to a Springfield police report.

When police arrived, they spoke with the victim who said about an hour before he called police, two unknown suspects attempted to rob him and stabbed him.

The victim said he was walking north from East Columbia Street in an alley in the 800 block of West North Street when the suspects approached him.

“An unknown suspect (1) approached him from behind and put a knife to his throat. Unknown suspect (1) demanded (the victim) to give him his wallet and stated that he would kill (the victim). Unknown suspect (1) then let go of (the victim),” the report said. “An unknown suspect (2) then approached him and began to stab him. (The victim) attempted to block the knife with his arm and sustained two lacerations.”

The victim said the suspects then fled the area on foot heading east on West North Street, and that they were unable to take anything during the attempted robbery, the report said.

According to the report, both suspects are described to be between the age of 25 and 35 and have a skinny build. The first suspect is described to be 5-foot-8 and was wearing a black mask, gray hoodie and blue jeans, and the second suspect is described to be 5-foot-5 and was wearing a blue mask.

No other suspect or witness information was available, and Springfield police continue their investigation.
