Springfield police are investigating after a man reportedly exposed himself to a woman while she was walking on a trail.

Officers were dispatched around 10 a.m. on Sunday to the area of Mitchell Boulevard and the Simon Kenton Trail on a report of a man exposing himself to a woman on the bike path, according to a Springfield police report.

When police arrived, they found the victim who started telling officers what happened when they heard a motorcycle approach the area.

“(The officer) observed a dark red motorcycle with a lot of chrome on it coming up a dirt path from the bank of Buck Creek,” the report said. “As soon as the male saw (the officer), he turned around and went back down the path.”

Officers then found the motorcycle a short time later in the area of Cederview Drive where the man fled again, but police did not pursue him, the report said.

Police then gave the victim a ride to her friend’s house where she was able to tell them what happened.

“(The victim) advised when she crossed the trestle, there was a male on a motorcycle parked in the weeds,” the report said.

She said the man said, “Excuse me,” a few times and asked her what time it was, if she had a man and why she was being so mean, the report said. The victim said she then started to walk away when the man said, “Watch this.”

The victim said as she turned around, the man was leaning on his motorcycle exposing himself and performing a sex act, the report said. The woman said she immediately walked away and called police.

According to the report, the suspect is described to be a man, 35 to 40-years-old, 6-foot-1, 210 pounds with facial tattoos. He was wearing a black face mask, blue ball cap, blue long-sleeved shirt and light-colored denim jeans.

The woman said she has never seen the man before and doesn’t know him, but that he took off his face mask while talking to her so she could see his entire face.

No other suspect or witness information was available, and Springfield police continue their investigation into this incident.
