When police arrived, they spoke with the fire marshal who said the fire appeared to be an arson.
“He advised that the house is vacant and had no furniture or property within. He stated that they arrived to find the structure fully engulfed with flames,” the report stated.
The fire marshal told officers that he was told that the fire may have been started by preteen children.
"During the investigation, it appears that the front house windows were shattered inward before the fire started, indicating that the suspects entered the home and were inside when the fire began,” the report stated. “He was able to determine that no gasoline appears to have been used as an accelerant.”
A witness told police that on Sunday he saw six children near the house and that he saw two of them at the house the day of the fire, the report stated.
No other suspect or witness information was available.
Springfield Police and Fire Divisions continue their investigation into this incident.
