New Springfield Raising Cane’s location opens

Customers made their way through the snowy weather on Monday to check out the new Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers location in Springfield.

One customer said he thinks the new location is the “best thing in the world.”

“I think it’s the best thing in the world... I think it’s really good for Springfield. Overall, the area is a nice location,” said Paul Snow. “I love it. I talked it up to my wife a whole bunch so hopefully she loves it as much as I do.”

There were Clark County sheriff’s deputies out at the restaurant, located at the intersection of Hillcrest Avenue and Albemarle Road, helping to direct traffic, which went around the block and caused a 20 to 30 minute wait an hour after opening.

“The new Raising Cane’s in Springfield should be a good hit,” said customer Tobie Crockran. “It will be awesome. It’s a good location, good competition with KFC being across the street. It will be a big business for them. I’ll probably be here like once a week... the food is delicious and I’m so happy that we got something else.”

The restaurant is open for drive-thru and carryout. The first 100 customers received free shirts and combo meals Monday.

“I think it’s great for the community. It’s got a line backed up all the way around the road,” said drive-thru customer Mitchell Davis. “I’m just excited to get some chicken... The food’s great, great sauce, great chicken, and the owner is actually a Wittenberg alum,” he said.

Michael Williams, the marketing manager for Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers locations in the Cincinnati and Dayton area, said the area is familiar territory to Tim McCarthy, the founder of RCO Limited, which is the Ohio franchise partner of Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers.

“Our franchise founder, Timmy McCarthy, actually went to Wittenberg, so Springfield holds a special place in his heart,” he said in January.

Williams said the Springfield location will also have 30 to 40 pieces of local graphics to showcase the community inside the restaurant, including Wittenberg memorabilia.

Construction on the restaurant started in September. The location features a double drive-thru with an indoor dining area, similar to the other Dayton area locations, and employs 80 to 90 individuals.

“We’re so proud to be joining the Springfield community,” said General Manager Amber Hunscke. “I’m so excited to be bringing hot, fresh chicken to Springfield and to see how we can further get involved in the community.”
