Smith, a Springfield resident and 2018 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Optometry, said she originally went to school for physical therapy, but decided to change directions after an internship during her undergraduate studies in California.
“I realized a lot of people were failing because of their vision, not necessarily ability issues," Smith said.
That is when she decided to switch her field of study.
“I put everything off because I was like this was meant for me and this is what I wanted to do, so I made it happen," Smith said.
After graduating with her Doctor of Optometry Degree, Smith worked at Comprehensive Eye Care, which has stores around the region, for two years.
“The owner of that office (Dr. John Downer) really helped me push along and get my own office,” Smith said.
She explained that she had always wanted to open her own office and decided to move forward with her dream right before the coronavirus pandemic began in March. Smith said the pandemic gave her the extra time to put everything together.
Due to COVID-19 guidelines, Sight Vision Care is not scheduling as many patients in a day as the office normally would.
“For me, every patient has an hour time-slot, so they basically have the whole office to themselves," Smith said.
Sight Vision Care, located at 4950 Middle Urbana Road, offers comprehensive eye exams, contact lens exams and eye exams to manage diseases.
Smith said her office is wheelchair accessible, allowing individuals in a wheelchair to not have to get out of their wheelchair during an appointment.
