No one was injured in a fire early Monday morning at the International plant (formerly Navistar) in Moorefield Twp., north of Springfield.

Around 3:42 a.m. Monday, an electrical short in a vehicle near the end of the line caused a fire, spokesperson Bre Whalen McCloud said. No one was injured and the company said it is working with authorities who are investigating “to continue to ensure the safety of our employees, customers and community.”

The company, formerly known as Navistar and renamed International Motors LLC effective in October, manufactures medium-duty trucks at its plant on Urbana Road (Ohio 72).

In a separate incident on Friday, employees at the plant were evacuated and sent home when an unexpected odor was detected, Whalen McCloud said. She said the facility was later found free from hazards.

“These two events are unrelated, and we thank the authorities for their quick response in both instances,” Whalen McCloud said.

Moorefield Twp. Fire and EMS responded to both incidents. As of Tuesday morning, Moorefield Twp. had not provided its reports on the two fire/EMS runs to the plant, to the News-Sun.
