Mercy Health — Springfield Cancer Center and oncology program has named Lisa Gibson as the new director after the retirement of longtime director Pilar Mock.

Gibson has been with the healthcare system since 2013, when she joined as a certified medical assistant with Clark County Gastroenterology, and she was later promoted to a practice manager. She then became the practice manager at the Springfield Cancer Center in 2021, where she partnered closely with Mock to get experience in medical oncology, radiation oncology, and hematology.

“I am deeply grateful for this opportunity and feel truly blessed to have worked with Pilar, whose coaching and guidance have been invaluable in preparing me for this role,” Gibson said. “I am excited to lead this amazing team of providers and staff, and I look forward to collaborating to deliver the highest quality care to our patients right here in our community.”

Mock, whose last day was Jan. 18, became a member of the staff in 1983 as a nurse aide, then served as a nurse education and other roles including director of nursing before briefly leaving, and later returning in 2012 as the oncology director.

“I feel so blessed and honored to have worked with wonderful patients, staff, and providers. They all taught me an appreciation of life and kindness during the good and bad times. Life is so short and precious so be and do good in love to those you encounter,” Mock said.

As director, Pilar was devoted to program growth within the Oncology Service Line, development of staff positions, and community outreach and innovative ideas. She was most recently involved in the creation of the Karen Teusink Integrated Breast Center and the new Urbana Cancer Center.
