Man reportedly shot in face in Springfield

The Springfield Police Division is investigating a shooting that occurred on North Florence Street Thursday night.

Officers responded to a report that a male had been shot in the face in the 100 block of North Florence Street. An officer arrived at the scene at 9:31 p.m., Thursday.

The victim was reported to be a 18-year-old man who was bleeding profusely from his mouth, according to a police report filed by the division.

An officer who responded to the shooting noted that the victim was walking, alert and coherent. The officer spoke to the victim’s relative who witnessed the shooting.

The relative said that he heard a knock at the front door. When he opened it, he asked the man that was knocking to identify himself. The victim was standing behind his relative at the time.

The man who knocked allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot past the relative striking the victim with a .380 round, according to the police report.

After the shooting, the suspected shooter and his accomplice ran to a black Chevrolet Impala and sped away southward on North Florence Street, the report stated.

A spent shell casing was located by officers under the front door threshold outside of the home.

Officers spoke to the victim at Springfield Regional Medical Center. The victim said that everything happened very fast. The victim was later transported via a ground unit to Miami Valley Hospital.

Officers noted that there was no positive suspect identification provided at the time that the police report was filed Thursday night.
