Officers responded around 3:25 p.m. on Saturday to the 600 block of South York Street on a report of a man shot, according to an affidavit filed in the case. Dispatch told officers that a man struck a parked car with his vehicle in front of this address.
“As witnesses went to render aid to (the victim), they found that he had actually been shot in the leg and was bleeding profusely,” the affidavit stated.
Officers then talked to a witness who said he saw his neighbor on Summer Street fire a rifle at the victim just before the victim fled in his vehicle, the affidavit stated. The witness then showed officers where the shooting took place.
“There was glass all over the roadway in front of that address and fresh tire marks where the victim’s vehicle had fled,” the affidavit stated.
Officers then knocked on the residence where the shooting happened and asked the woman who answered the door if the suspect, was in the house, and she said he was. Officers also asked the woman if the suspect shot the victim, and she also said he did.
At that time, the suspect, identified as Crabtree came outside and told police that the victim was outside of his house making threats to him again, so he went inside and got his rifle, the affidavit stated. He said he told the victim to leave or he’d shoot him before firing one round into the dirt.
"Crabtree fired one round into the dirt and then told (the victim) that he had three seconds to leave or he was going to shoot him and he began counting. (The victim) got into his vehicle and Crabtree got to three and fired one more round through the open rear window of (the victim’s) vehicle. The bullet then passed through (the victim’s) leg exited the vehicle through the front drivers door,” the affidavit stated.
Crabtree was then arrested and charged with felonious assault.
The victim was “rushed by medics” to Springfield Regional Medical Center and then flown to Miami Valley Hospital.
“At this time of this charge, (the victim) was still in surgery for the injuries he sustained. It is unclear at this time if (the victim) will survive his injuries,” the affidavit stated.
The Springfield News-Sun has reached out to the hospital for more information.
