A Logan County man has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a 7-year-old boy.

Officers received a complaint on Sept. 17 regarding the sexual assault of a seven-year-old boy, according to the Bellefontaine Police Department.

“The parents came to be suspicious of an adult male who had befriended the family in recent months,” the police department stated.

Detectives and officers were then able to execute a search warrant the next day at the suspect’s residence in Bellefontaine.

At the time of the search warrant, investigators made contact with the suspect, Patrick Newsome, 28, who “voluntarily agreed” to be taken to the police department, a release from Bellefontaine Police said.

“The investigation revealed an inappropriate sexual relationship between Newsome and the victim over the course of at least several months,” the police department stated.

Newsome was then arrested and charged on two counts of rape, according to Bellefontaine police. He remains in the Logan County Jail with a $1,000,000 bond, according to jail records.

The incident remains under investigation.
