3, 45, 49, 61, 69. The Mega Ball was 9. The Megaplier was 5x.

Those are the winning numbers drawn Tuesday night in the largest Mega Millions jackpot in the game's 16-year history and the third-biggest prize in U.S. lottery history.

No tickets matched all six numbers for what was a $667 million prize. Friday’s jackpot drawing has climbed to a record $868 million.

Friday’s cash option is worth at least $494 million.

THE OLD RECORD

The record Mega Millions jackpot of $656 million on March 30, 2012, was shared by winners in Illinois, Kansas and Maryland.

A $648 million jackpot was won in California and Georgia on Dec. 17, 2013.

Mega Millions is also a multi-state lottery and one of America’s two biggest lottery jackpot games. Jackpots start at $40 million, and other prizes pay from $1 million to $2 million or more with a Megaplier.

The odds of winning with a $2 Mega Millions ticket are one in 303 million.
