You have to see this bird’s-eye view of High and Fountain streets from the 1930s

This downtown bird’s-eye view from early in 1939 shows the southeast corner of High and Fountain Streets.

Some of the businesses that populated the Arcade included the Clauer Brothers Store, one of more than 20 locations they had at that time, Schaefer’s Bakery, and a shoe and candy store.

Today, the bird’s-eye view isn't possible, and the Arcade and its many shops are gone, replaced with the Courtyard Hotel.
