“USS is here to serve older adults in our community, especially those that are most vulnerable because of the coronavirus. When we see a need, we fill it,” Maureen Fagans, CEO of United Senior Services, said in the release.

After seeing an increase of seniors choosing to stay home due to COVID-19, USS began working to add the grocery service.
“We are glad to help those who are unable to go the grocery themselves and those without friends or family who can do it for them,” said Fagans.
In addition to this new service, USS has continued offering several other services, including Meals on Wheels, transportation to medical appointments and in-home care, the release stated. They will also continue to offer online programming, which will now expand with additional fitness, recreation and education activities moving to online.
“USS centers are the go-to place for older adults in Clark County for staying fit, lifelong learning, and socializing. Normally our centers see upwards of 1,800 members walking through the doors every week. The importance of providing opportunities for physical and social interaction for older adults doesn’t decrease because our doors are closed,” Fagans said.

Online programs such as fitness classes and the Lunch and Learn series will be offered through videos.
“The need for USS to keep in touch with our members and clients, and for them to be able to reach out to each other, only becomes more vital at a time like this,” Fagans said. “Nothing can replace being together in our centers, but we hope these new online activities help to fill the temporary gap our mandated closure creates.”
As of Friday, the USS will remain closed until senior centers are allowed to open, and any large gatherings or special events through August are canceled or postponed, Fagans said.
