Things to do in Clark, Champaign counties - while practicing social distancing

To prevent the potential spread of COVID-19 or coronavirus, health officials are encouraging social distancing while doing activities with other people.

COVID-19 is thought to be spread mainly from person-to-person that are in close contact with one another, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) website.

“Social distancing is so critical, and many Ohioans are starting to understand its importance, but there are still some who don’t yet get it,” Gov. Mike Dewine said during Wednesday’s press conference. “This is a crisis that we have never seen in our lifetime, and everyone must recognize that their actions could have deadly consequences.”

Social distancing, staying about six feet away from one another, is encouraged to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Here is a list of activities residents of Clark and Champaign counties can do while practicing social distancing:

1. Visit local parks and trails

The Clark County Park District’s parks and trails remain open. Residents can ride bikes, walk, run, fish, rock climb or bird watch.

George Rogers Clark Park, 936 S. Tecumseh Road in Springfield.

Mad River Gorge and Nature Preserve, 2710 Dayton-Springfield Road in Springfield.

Spangler Nature Preserve, the corner of Spangler and Union Roads in Medway.

Trails

Little Miami Scenic Trail, 3200 Springfield-Xenia Road in Springfield.

Praire Grass Trail, 147 Mound St. in South Charleston.

2. Take pictures in front of Springfield murals

Downtown Springfield has two large murals residents can visit to test their photography skills.

The Rose City Mural on the side of the Starrett and Fried building at 10 E. Main St. next to the Bushnell Building is blooming with roses.

The Greetings from Springfield Mural is accompanied by a pocket park on North Fountain Ave. between Sip & Dipity Paint Bar and Stella Bleu Bistro.

3. Visit museums all around the world

Google Arts & Culture provides virtual museum tours from museums all around the world. Online exhibits from museums in Cincinnati and Columbus are included.

4. Try out DIY crafts

Never had the chance to try your home craft pins on Pinterest? Now is the time. Pinterest has an abundance of home crafts to do like making giant jenga or decorating your kitchen.

5. Video chat with friends and family

Residents practicing social distancing beyond six feet, can use several online tools to talk to friends and family members. Online tools include FaceTime, Skype or Google Hangout.
