His six month jail sentence and letters seeking leniency from his father and other supporters has caused a firestorm.
Here are other notorious Dayton area residents who committed national known offenses ranging from the demented to to the relatively minor.
MARCUS WAYNE CHENAULT JR.
He died of a stroke in 1995 in an Atlanta-area hospital. He was 44.

Troutman shot his brother and bandmate, talkbox pioneer Roger Troutman, outside of Roger Troutman's Dayton music studio as part of a murder-suicide on April 25, 1999.
He was later found dead in his car from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Roger Troutman died at an area hospital.
The brothers were part of the legendary Dayton funk band Zapp.
MICHAEL FAY
The Dayton area's most well-known criminals of the last 20 years commited one of the tamest crimes.
Then-18 year old and of Kettering, Michael Fay found himself in the middle of an international debate over crime and punishment after vandalizing cars and stealing road signs in Singapore in 1993.
He was caned after being convicted there of theft and vandalism.
CHINA ARNOLD
China Arnold is serving life without parole for the death of her 28-day-old baby girl, Paris Talley.
In one of the most gruesome murder cases in recent Montgomery County history, prosecutors argued that Arnold killed the baby by burning her in a microwave oven.
ALTON COLEMAN AND DEBRA BROWN
Serial killer Alton Coleman was executed on April 26, 2002 for a six-state killing spree in 1994.
He and his common-law wife, Debra Brown, were arrested in July 1984 in Evanston, Ill. Authorities say they were behind a seven-week series of beatings and murders in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin.
Brown's death penalty was commuted to a life sentence.
JERRY AND JOSEPH KANE

Kane, an anti-government U.S. extremist, gave the officers documents that used convoluted language describing him as a sovereign citizen, not bound by the laws of any government.
As the officers looked at the documents, Kane's 16-year-old son Joseph climbed out of the van with an AK-47 and shot them multiple times.
The Kanes were eventually cornered in a Walmart parking lot and died in a hail of gunfire. Two other officers were hurt in that gun battle.
