Texas Roadhouse in Springfield to add second entrance, more parking

Construction is underway as a Springfield Texas Roadhouse restaurant looks to expand its parking and create another entrance off of a busy city street.

The business has one entrance/exit off of North Bechtle Avenue and hopes to add another along with 53 parking spots next month, said the restaurant’s managing partner Travis Shearing. It’s a move that comes after the purchase of an empty lot from nearby Home Depot earlier this year.

The sale was finalized in March when Texas Roadhouse Holdings LLC purchased the property, right next to its North Bechtle location, from HD Development of Maryland Inc. —a parent company of Home Depot— for $450,000, according to the Clark County Auditor’s Office.

Shearing said there have been multiple issues regarding traffic jams and congestion when customers try to enter or leave the location’s parking lot. The hope is by adding another entrance, it will help alleviate those issues as well as any safety concerns.

Shearing said safety concerns related to having one entrance for the restaurant were amplified after an exhaust fan caught on fire in 2017. He said the Springfield Fire/Rescue Division had difficulty moving equipment into the parking lot and the situation could have been a lot worse if employees had not contained the fire before first responders arrived.

With construction —that started earlier this month— of the new entrance and additional parking spots expected to end in the beginning of August, customers will be able to access the restaurant’s parking lot from surrounding stores.

“There will be multiple access points for customers all the way to the Wal-Mart,” Shearing said.

In addition to having another driveway for the business, Shearing said there have been talks of hosting multiple community events on the property. However, he said that depends on how much space will be freed up as a result of the expansion.
